So, this summer I decided to be productive and do a summer school class while working. I am taking a class called Great Books III, which is about the romanticism period. It is a 5 week class and we have 4 books to read, and 6 poems. We have a quiz everyday and we need to be in touch with nature. Although, that sounds like a lot of work it really is not and is actually quite interesting. My favorite book of the class is called Madame Bovary, by Gustave Flaubert. It is a book about this girl named Emma who is obsessed with romantic novels and what they have to offer her. The book starts off slow but is very enlightening. It is funny how you read books that were written in different countries way before any of us are born that can have an effect on society today.
Along with this class I am working at Victoria Secret still downtown, just moved into my new condo, had a birthday trip, and am trying to get the sorority information started. It has been really complicated but it’s all been working out. My new condo is really close to school, it takes me 10 minutes to walk. At work they have been cutting hours so I have more time to myself to procrastinate on homework but it kind of makes me nervous because I have to pay rent now. So I decided to get another job which is actually on campus. I am working event staff. What I do is go to all the games early, wear a bright yellow shirt and either guide people to their seats or make sure everyone is safe and not acting crazy at the games. The benefits of this are that I go to the games anyway but I am getting paid for it and get free food. Downfall is that I have to clean! But it’s alright.
My birthday weekend was really fun but it was soooooooo time consuming. July 11th is my birthday and for some reason I thought it would be a good idea to move in on that day also. So at 7 am I have a moving truck moving all my stuff. My best friend on a train from LA coming to SLO so she can go to Santa Barbara too, and 3 girls waiting for me to unpack my whole room and pack for our trip by 4 o clock. This was the stupidest idea as a new 20 year old. I am also going to Atlanta for 2 weeks because my family decided to move there so that will change the atmosphere of a lot of things. My mom originally wanted me to leave Calpoly because she did not want me in this state by myself, but my brother stayed in LA so I am okay I guess.
This summer at Poly has really made me more independent than the school year has. During school all your friends are still here you have numerous teachers and faculty to talk to but in the summer it is mostly you. SLO is a real calm and relaxed place and you learn to appreciate it during the summer.

The First Issue
So, my name is Shauna and this is my intro Blog!!
I am a sophomore and an Industrial technology major.
I know a lot of you reading this now are probably like oh, Industrial technology she much be smart because it sounds all complicated But its really not. (IT) is basically a combination of advanced business marketing skills and the basics of engineering. So I am learning how to market engineers.
I am from LOS ANGELES! Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!! Haha and it is totally a different atmosphere here but you get use to it.
The things I am involved in are absolutely everything. Cal Poly can get very slow sometimes so u must be active. I am vice president of Black student Union, help with events put on by the Multicultural Center (MCC), work downtown at Victoria Secrets, one of the leaders for the Pre-Collegiate Symposium, work event staff for the football games and my biggest project is attempting to start a black sorority on campus.
Although I am very active in the school life I do like to go out and party with my friends. Since Cal Poly is in the middle of everything we sometimes hang here on Hathway or drive to Santa Barbara and hangout with friends there.
There are other numerous events and clubs on campus that I am not a part of that cover almost every topic you might be interested in.
Some people say I am a little feisty. So a lot of my blog will be me angry or extremely happy about an issue. I am very opinionated and like to say what’s on my mind. But I shall keep this G-rated. Haha
That’s all I have to say for now, but please stay tunes for the next Shauna issue!!
(You get it…issue as in next blog and issue as in problem, haha)
